Turner syndrome

Turner syndrome is a chromosomal disorder that affects one in every 2,000 baby girls. This disorder is specific to girls.

In these girls, instead of 2 x chromosomes, only 1 x chromosome is seen.

This genetic disorder occurs during fertilization. The mother’s age does not play a role in this genetic disorder.

Characteristics of people with Turner syndrome

In these girls, a wide range of signs and symptoms are seen and they have clear characteristics. Most girls with Turner syndrome have the following characteristics:

Short stature: They are shorter than other people.

Underdeveloped ovaries that lead to menstrual irregularities.

Because height and sexual development are two very important characteristics, in girls, Turner syndrome may not be recognizable until sexual maturation has taken place, that is, between the ages of 8 and 14.

The signs and symptoms of Turner syndrome vary from person to person.

Treatment of Turner syndrome

There is no definitive cure for Turner syndrome. But the symptoms of this disorder can be treated. Women and girls with Turner syndrome need general examinations of the body, especially the heart, kidneys, and genitals throughout their lives. By controlling and conducting general tests, it is possible for them to live a healthy life.

Life expectancy in these people is lower than in normal people, but with proper care and examination, this process can also increase.
